13 October 2009 - For a truly inspiring and picturesque holiday, a trip to the Dalmatian coast is an absolute must. Adriatic Cottages, a travel company specialising in tours along the Adriatic Coast, is now offering tours for April/May 2010. You’ll visit Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina, taking in 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The guided tour is run by the owners of the business who live, love and breathe the Adriatic. With knowledge only locals are privy to, you’ll visit the Plitvice Lakes National Park with its breathtaking lakes, caves and waterfalls, The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik, Trogir whose orthogonal street plan dates back to the Hellenistic period and the Old City Of Dubrovnik, which features beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains, plus much more.
In Montenegro you’ll tour Kotor, a natural harbour that was an important artistic and commercial centre with famous schools of masonry and iconography. While in Bosnia-Herzegovina you’ll discover the beauty of the Old Bridge Area of the Old City of Mostar, which was developed in the 15th and 16th centuries as an Ottoman frontier town.
There is also the chance to discover and enjoy Eastern European cuisine, including corba (soup) shopska salad and sarma. And, of course, a trip to Croatia simply has to involve the consumption of cevapi, small skinless sausages of lamb and beef mix.
According to Rebecca Thomas, Director at Adriatic Cottages, Eastern Europe has a lot to offer. “There’s everything from gourmet tours, hiking, yachting, skiing, kayaking, walking through history, learning to interact with multiple cultures, spectacular scenery by train or bus and island hopping,” she says. “If it sounds like we’re excited about Eastern Europe, it’s because we are excited about Eastern Europe!”
The price for this 22-day tour is £4200 (GBP) and includes all accommodation, town tours, museum entry, air-conditioned coach, two train trips and most meals.
